about

In February 2023 the new album of Gecko Turner will be released, his fifth studio album. "De balde" is the song chosen as the album's advance track, and features posthumous lyrics by the great writer Carlos Lencero, a regular collaborator of Camarón, Pata Negra or Remedios Amaya, and a native of Badajoz, like Turner.
Although it was conceived to be a fandango, Gecko integrated it into his soniquete. That musical universe, close to the Guadiana that triangulates between the music of Latin America, the pulse of African rhythms that floods flamenco, and African-American music in general, is where the Badajoz native feels at home.
The result is a magical song that rocks you, and reminds you that everything is better when you love someone for nothing in exchange.
lyrics
De balde, yo te vi' a queré de balde
te vi' a queré a mi manera;
solo tienes que dejarte,
tené encendía la candela
y ganitas de quemarte.
Desde mi ventana veo
el río Guadalquivir;
va de Sevilla a Sanlúcar
sabiendo que va a morir,
pero eso no le preocupa.
Toito lo que a mí me pasa
solito me lo he buscao,
y nunca me he preocupao
de colocación ni casa;
yo he nacío colocao.
Laurel, anoche planté un laurel,
anoche fué luna llena;
yo me acordaba de usted:
se me quitaron las penas;
me lo notó hasta el laurel.
